Final Assignment
Back to last semester I wanted to try out something new, something challenging for me so I chose computer science as my major. I went through the requirements and picked this class for my spring semester which is Connected Computing CS-1030-007 .Now computer science is not my major anymore but I’ve learned a lot from this class.
The first thing we did in class was spending two weeks on watching videos. The purpose of these videos is to help us get the most out of the course which is good because receiving information is one of the most important things in learning. I learnt that I should ask more often and overcome this feeling of afraid to ask which is stupid because I paid to learn new things so I’m just wasting money if I don’t get anything out of it. The instructor was opened about learning things outside of class because we might somehow don’t understand each other so I felt comfortable with it.
After the videos we were assigned to set up our e-portfolio. E-portfolio is very irritating to me because I do not like it at all. It is confusing, the website always have problem when logging in. But my instructor told us about how students in computer science should have a decent E-portfolio so I take it as a motivation for me to finish my E-portfolio. I still have problems with it but it is coming out ok for me now. At first I thought the E-portfolio was a stupid idea and why anyone would want such thing but after taking the time to do it and put my best work in for the purpose of showing it to other people so it can represents me at my best.
When the E-portfolio was done and taken care of we got to learn about binary number and how to convert decimal to binary to hex. This was very confusing at first but when we got to do more exercise and getting the hang of it everything becomes easier. With the decimal to binary to hex quiz I scored a 40 out of 40 I know this is not in like mastered level but I feel accomplished because I tried and I feel that I understand more about the course, the assignment that we have to do and more confident for future assignments. There were also assignments like hexadecimal addition and cisco binary conversion which I also did well in it. So I felt good about it too. It is not something that u can learn and be really good with in just one day. It takes practice to do well.
Moving on with that we got to learn about the IP address, how to set up internet. I’ve never done this before. I am very new to computer and so this is amazing to learn about things that you use pretty much 24/7 but you have no clue what behinds it.
Taking this class also taught me a lot about personal safety and how to protect myself and my work. The instructor talked about his painful experiences with all the copyright of his how to book and his invention with the car but that’s how we learn we go through things to aware of it.
In conclusion, I enjoyed learning from this class, it taught me a lot from both in major and in life that I can use every day at work and school. I felt that this class was very important and is the foundation to the computer science major as well as internet engineering like the instructor said that we need to know the basics well in order to progress and develop to harder things.
